SPCA’s ‘Weekend Witness’ 1?000 Paws Walk

2011-07-08 00:00

LED by team mascots Sharkie and Simba, supporters of each will take to the rugby fields of Hilton College on Sunday July 10 at the Weekend Witness 1 000 Paws Walk for SPCA.

Sharkie’s team will be pitting its strength and skill against Simba’s side in a tug-of-war battle to settle the score. Under the iron control of former South African National Defence Force specialist, retired Sergeant Major Solly Coertze, the event will run as a well oiled fighting machine.

Grandchildren, grandparents, fathers and mothers, are you brave enough to enter the field of battle? The spoils of war (chocolates and nougat) will be distributed to the winning teams, while losers go home with their tails between their legs.

Four-piece rock band Undercover will treat you to old favourites throughout the day. If that’s not your taste, relax with a good meal and drink as the Caledonian Pipe Band entertains with its lunchtime show. DJ Frank Knowles will be there to amuse and inform, while the dogs enjoy their walkies. Troupes of dancers, two legged and four legged, will supply a feast for the eyes. When the dog agility teams have had their turn, you can take your pet for a quick spin round the course.

There are prizes to be won, but the ultimate winners of your support will be the animals cared for by the SPCAs of Pietermaritzburg, uMngeni (Howick) and Mooi River and District.
