Sad state of affairs at club level

2015-02-05 00:00

IT’S a poor reflection on club cricket in Pietermaritzburg when, in the MCA Premier T20 League involving eight teams, there is a dispute raging around one game and another is won through a walkover.

That’s 50% of the games being wasted, the disputed one still unresolved as the week moves on, the scorers unable to put two and two together.

From the latest round of matches played last weekend, at the time of going to press, there was one decent result, Varsity getting the better of Cosmos at Khan Road, by 36 runs.

The abandoned match between Standard and MCC at Linpark can be lived with considering the weather that descended over Pietermaritzburg on Sunday afternoon.

It seems Masibemunye battle to get something together, meaning those drawn against them invariably get given a walkover win. Masibemunye are on a final warning from the MCA executive for failing to pitch up for matches.

The disputed clash concerns Zingari against Young Natalians, with no scores forthcoming from the clash. Hence a league table cannot be issued either but what has been determined is Standard meeting Varsity in the final of the MCA Premier T20 League, at Pietermaritzburg Oval, on April 5, at 6 pm.
