Safe parties: New Venue for U18s

2011-01-31 00:00

SEAN Swanson, owner of Mega Music, and Jason Elkington, a well-known club, wedding and functions DJ, are embarking on a new venture to host under-18 parties in and around Pietermaritzburg, which will be known for being drug- and alcohol-free zones.

Their first gig will be held at the Royal Showground’s “sheep shed” at entrance 8, on February 5. They will be showcasing some of the city’s best deejays, including Sgoody, Stutter, Splashy, Neil and Jay.

The gates will open at 7pm and at close at 12 midnight.

Said Swanson. “We are promoting an alcohol- and drug-free zone where the teenagers of Pietermaritzburg can let their hair down in a clean and safe environment. We want the parents to know that their children are safe and are being monitored,”

He said nothing is done to provide entertainment for the youth, which leads to drinking and drug abuse, and they would like to change this.

“We welcome parents to contact us so that we can reassure them of our intentions,” Swanson said. “Working together with the public we hope to create a regular event that will be a huge success and help the youth of Pietermaritzburg …”
