AN employee of a hair salon in Church Street, Pietermaritzburg, was shot after he refused to allow a 31-year-old man into the salon at 6.30 pm on Saturday.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said the victim, Jazz Ebengala, claimed that the suspect demanded a haircut although the salon was closed.

“When he was not allowed into the premises he left and returned shortly with a firearm and shot Ebengala in the stomach.

“The suspect told the police that the victim was involved in a relationship with his girlfriend,” said Jeevan.

In KwaPata, Edendale, a taxi driver was stabbed several times and shot in the hip at about 3 am on Satuday. He was robbed of cash.

“He was in the city centre when three men asked him to take them to KwaPata,” said Jeevan. “… When the taxi stopped for them to alight they stabbed him in the back and shot him.”

The taxi driver is recovering in hospital. — Witness Reporter.
