Sanzar: New hearing for Stormers

2013-05-10 00:00

A NEW Sanzar judicial hearing into the complaints of misconduct against the Stormers and their team management during the recent Super Rugby match against the Hurricanes is to be held.

New Zealand newspapers have reported that assistant referee Sheldon Eden-Whaitiri complained of persistent abuse by either a player or member of the Stormers’ touchline staff during the tourists’ 18-16 victory in Palmerston North.

The first hearing was postponed until yesterday at the request of the Stormers’ management, but judicial officer Adam Casselden said last night that he could not proceed as he was concerned that a fair hearing was no longer possible because of the disclosure of certain information to him.

Casselden has referred the misconduct complaints to a new Sanzar judicial officer in the belief that a fresh hearing is necessary in the interests of fairness.

Sanzar said in statement last night that they would appoint a new judicial officer and set a date and time for the new hearing.
