Sardine fever spreads in KZN

2009-07-29 00:00

SARDINE fever is spreading over the KwaZulu-Natal south coast as the “Greatest Shoal on Earth” made surprise visits to several beaches yesterday.

Sardine activity was first reported in the Margate and Ramsgate areas at the weekend, and shoals then moved up the coast. The Natal Sharks Board also had reports of sardine activity at Scottburgh and Hibberdene.

While only small shoals have been spotted along the coastline, fishermen netted about 50 baskets at Rocky Bay and Pennington yesterday morning. More sardines were netted near Happy Wanderers.

For sardine updates, call the Sardine Hotline 082 284 9495. — Witness Reporter.
