FIVE people, including a police captain’s wife and daughter, appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of assault.

The case relates to the assault of a 14-year-old grade nine pupil at Raisethorpe Secondary on Monday

The accused — four adults in their 30s and a schoolgirl aged 14 — are charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

They appeared before magistrate Divesh Mootheram and were given the opportunity to make arrangements for legal representation.

They were ordered to be detained in custody.

The accused will make a formal bail application next Friday.
