Schools cricket fixtures washed out

2014-11-04 00:00

THERE was no joy for schoolboy cricketers this weekend as rain on Friday prevented any play on Saturday.

There were some interesting clashes on the programme that had to be called off and the only teams that got some play were Glenwood and Westville.

Glenwood v Westville Boys’ High

Playing at Glenwood, the hosts batted first and made good their option with a solid display, piling up 264-8 in their 50 overs.

Jerome Bossr was the only batsman to pass fifty as he compiled a decent 58, but it was the starts from other batsmen which swelled the total.

Sithabiso Zungu (42), Cameron Flowers (36) and Jason Wagener (35*) all got starts in what was one of the team’s strongest batting displays in many years.

As the weather closed in, Westville had time to bat for 14 overs, struggling to 30-3 when the rain came and ruined it all.

Glenwood 264-8 (Bossr 58, Zungu 42, Flowers 36, Wagener 35*)

Westville 30-3

Match Abandoned

Results: Clifton College v Hilton — washed out. DHS v Maritzburg College — washed out. Michaelhouse v Northwood — washed out.
