Schools host cricket festivals

ON Saturday, there will be three cricket festivals taking place in the Midlands. Maritzburg College is hosting the 53rd annual Michaelmas Week, Weston will be holding their 18th Weston Week and Hilton College will hold their U14 Festival.

All three take place over the first four days of the forthcoming school holidays, starting on Saturday. There are 18 school sides at the Michaelmas week, where all games are 50-over games. The KZN sides, including Westlake BHS from Auckland in New Zealand, are playing against visiting teams from Gauteng, Free State and the Eastern Cape.

The fixtures were published last Tuesday.

The fixtures for the U14 week are printed below. It is an interesting mix of games, with two declaration matches, one 50-over game and two T20 matches on the last day.

At Weston, all matches will be T20 games, with two competitions taking place. The championship will be contested by the two top teams on the last day, and a points competition will run for the remaining 10 teams.

October 1 — 50 overs
