School’s new head

2010-09-13 00:00

ALLEN van Blerk, who is currently the head of Academic Research and Development at St Charles College, has been announced as the College’s new principal.

He will be taking the reigns from Ronnie Kuhn, who retires at the end of the year.

In a letter loaded on the school’s website which was also sent to parents, Shaun Quin, the chairperson of the board of governors, said van Blerk’s appointment will be effective as from January 1, 2011.

According to the letter, van Blerk proved the strongest suitor for the coveted position after a thorough and intensive selection process was conducted.

Other contenders included several senior applicants from some of the major independent schools in the country.

Quin said van Blerk has shown himself to be a person of high principles during his time at St Charles College.

Van Blerk has held his current position since 2002 and since this period he has been a member of the St Charles College management team.

He obtained a Bachelor of Science, majoring in mathematics, as well as a University Education Diploma from the University of Natal.

More recently he has achieved a Master of Education Degree, summa cum laude, in the teaching of mathematics.

“Allen is married to Evaleen, who is also a teacher. They have two children who are currently in primary school. During his time at St Charles College Allen has shown himself to be a person of high principles and he will continue to ensure that the Christians ethos of the College is maintained,” Quin said in the letter.

He added that the board of governors was confident that van Blerk will lead St Charles successfully in the years ahead.
