Schools rugby: Charles Lowe Tournament action

2008-08-20 00:00

The second Wednesday of the Charles Lowe Schools Seven’s Tournament took place at Woodburn Stadium yesterday afternoon. The 12 teams in the two pools played the fourth and fifth rounds of the round robin stage.

In Pool A, the match between St Charles I and Maritzburg College was the one that would decide the winners of the pool, as they were both unbeaten after last week’s games.

In Pool B, Michaelhouse were three points ahead of Voortrekker, Weston I and the Development team that had won two games and lost the other.

College came through as winners of Pool A after they defeated St Charles I 19-5 and won their second game 52-15 against Howick.

St Charles won their second game 26-7 against Carter to be runners-up in the pool.

Carter gave them a good run as the teams were seven-all at halftime.

In Pool B, it was Michaelhouse that won after their wins against St Charles II by 54-0 and 36-0 against Voortrekker. Weston did well to come second in the pool after they surprisingly beat Voortrekker 31-7 and then beat Development 21-10.

Next Wednesday, the teams will play the semi-finals and finals in the cup, plate and bowl divisions.

The cup will be contested by the sides mentioned above that were the winners and runners-up of the two pools. The plate will see Howick and Carter from Pool A and Development and Voortrekker from Pool B.

The bowl matches will be played on Woodburn 2 between Alex, Carter II, St Charles II and Grace College.
