Search for Pietermaritzburg man ends tragically

2014-12-17 00:00

The desperate five-day-hunt for family man Paul Moses ended in tragedy when his decomposed body was found.

While there are conflicting reports on where he was found, The Witness has learnt that he sustained at least one gunshot wound to the chest.

His body was recovered on Monday.

Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane said a case of murder was opened at the Mountain Rise police station. He confirmed that two men aged 27 and 31 — whose names are known to The Witness — were arrested.

“The deceased Paul Moses was found in a green Golf in Stork Road. The vehicle was found parked in a bush near a train line,” said Zwane.

Earlier reports suggested that Moses’s car was found in Stork Road while his body was along Greytown Road near Albert Falls. A source with intimate knowledge of the investigation said it was believed that Moses’s body was found in a shallow grave.

Zwane said it is unknown if the alleged killers were known to Moses’s family.

Pietermaritzburg Crime Alert founder Shanaaz Bux sent messages on the community group on BlackBerry Messenger daily to rally people to join the search for Moses.

“Our members extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Paul Moses,” said Bux.

Zwane said the suspect are expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court today.

Moses’s family declined to comment.
