Search for two missing boys continues

2014-01-10 00:00

AN intense search operation to find two boys who disappeared along the Tugela River near Bulwer farm, on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, has still yielded no result.

Yesterday morning, a sniffer dog from the police’s K9 unit was used to help identify a likely area for the divers to start diving.

The two boys were part of a group of four who were in the water when disaster struck.

Paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services, together with the fire department and the police, responded to the emergency call at about 5 pm, said spokesperson Robert McKenzie.

“Three of the boys got into difficulty in the water. One boy managed to save himself, but the other two are still missing. The remaining two boys then raised the alarm and community members called the emergency services.”

When the police search and rescue team arrived on scene, they conducted a search with a sniffer dog and divers in the area of the river where the boys were reported missing.

The search continued until after dark, when it was called off due to poor light and a strong flowing river.

The KZN Police confirmed late yesterday that the boys were still missing.
