Search on for fugitive fraud accused

THE Durban Commercial Crime Unit is looking for information on the whereabouts of a local man who has skipped bail after being arrested for allegedly defrauding a number of people of nearly R1 million.

Sandile Sabelo Ngobese (27) appeared in the Durban Commercial Crime Court, where he was later released on bail.

Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said Ngobese was due to appear in court on July 3, 2013, but never showed up and a warrant for his arrest has now been issued.

According to Detective Warrant Officer Vusumuzi Gumede of the Durban Commercial Crime Unit, it is alleged that Ngobese has scammed approximately 40 victims out of a total of R942 025.

“Sandile used the name ‘Umkhandlu Wesizwe Financial Institute’ for his business based at Commercial City in Central Durban. He had convinced his victims by issuing them with receipts from a receipt book. He also told them they would receive 100% interest in return,” said Gumede.

It is alleged that between April and September 2012 he took different size cash deposits from dozens of investors, most of whom were from the Gauteng region, promising them huge interest on their investments.

Ngobese’s Facebook page named Umkhandlu Wesizwe Financial Institute claimed he had branches in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

Anyone who may have information about his whereabouts is requested to contact Gumede on 082 557 8054 or 031 327 8800 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
