Second loss puts Thanda in tough spot

WHILE Thanda Royal Zulu’s fortunes continue to flounder, National First Division (NFD) Coastal Stream fellows Nathi Lions notched up an impressive away win to stay on top of the log.

Thanda, boasting several players with PSL experience, slumped to their second successive defeat — 2-0 at home in Richards Bay to FC Cape Town — leaving scores of fans who had turned up dissapointed.

The defeat came off a 2-0 away loss to African Warriors in Qwaqwa last weekend, resulting in questions being raised about the Swedish-sponsored outfit’s chances for promotion.

However, coach Professor Ngubane cited unavailability of foreign players due to work permits and international clearance as the reason for the poor performances.

The veteran mentor vowed to turn the corner at the expense of Carara Kicks, whom they host at Richards Bay Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Lions recorded the weekend’s biggest scoreline, thumping Carara Kicks 6-1 in their backyard in the Free State.

The win has placed coach Sammy Troughton on top of the eight-team stream log after Lions collected a point in their first game of the campaign, drawing 0-0 against FC Cape Town in KwaMashu last weekend.

Lions winger Chris Makhoba attributed their win to determination and applying the coach’s instructions. “I think Carara underestimated us because we lost some key players with experience who played a big role in getting the close to promotion,” he said.

In the Inland Stream, it is tight at the top with Black Leopards, Witbank Spurs and United FC all sharing four points from two matches.

Jomo Cosmos kicked off the campaign with a credible away 2-0 win over Dynamos in Giyani.

In the Second Division League, newly promoted PMB side SAP Callies continued to impress, notching an invaluable point away (1-1)at Wembezi Juventus in Zululand.

Sobantu Shooting Stars were held 1-1 at home by Durban Warriors while Maritzburg City flopped again, losing 2-1 to Island FC in Ulundi.
