Security up for Pirates clash

2013-11-27 00:00

ORGANISERS are taking no chances with the safety of fans for tonight’s Premier League clash between Maritzburg United and Soweto giants Orlando Pirates at Harry Gwala Stadium.

With just 2 000 tickets remaining of the 10 700 that went on sale, Team of Choice manager Quintin Jettoo was confident that they will have a game in front of a full house.

Due to the size of Harry Gwala Stadium, and the crowds that a club like Orlando Pirates pulls wherever they travel, there were concerns that the game could be moved to the much bigger Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

According to Jettoo, all stakeholders have been involved, with 250 security officials and 85 police officers placed at various points in and around the stadium.

“We will also make sure that no one gets access into the stadium without a ticket,” Jettoo told The Witness yesterday.

Jettoo added that from 5.30 pm, Alexandra Road will be closed off between Alan Paton Avenue and College Road.

“The municipality has also made sure that the AB Jackson ground will be lit up to provide extra parking,” he said.
