THE KZN Association of Public Sector Lawyers has organised a seminar on the topic “Should public servants and public office bearers be allowed to have business interests in companies that do business with the state?”

The seminar, or colloquium, marks the formal launch of the association and takes place on Friday, October 8, at the Elangeni Hotel in Durban.

Speakers include:

• Chairperson of the standing committee on public accounts in KZN, Dr Makhosi Khoza, on the management of conflicts of interest within government.

• Cosatu general cecretary Zwelinzima Vavi on the risks associated with allowing public servants and office bearers to have business interests in companies that are doing business with the state.

• KZN Law Professor Karthy Govender on the constitutionality of a decision to bar public servants and public office bearers from having private business interests.

Anyone interested in attending should confirm today. For more details, call 082 820 4598 or 082 801 2584 or e-mail bhekimbili@mweb.co.za
