Sex case: teacher to face action

2014-06-06 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal Education Department yesterday promised that it will take “decisive action” against schoolteacher Robin Radley, who this week admitted he’d sexually molested two 13-year-old boys at Richmond Primary School in 1993.

The boys only came forward two decades later to lay charges because they were so ashamed of what had happened to them.

A spokesperson for the KZN Education Department, Sihle Mlotshwa, told The Witness yesterday the department viewed the case in a serious light.

“I can’t say today what action we are taking, but I can assure you that it will be decisive,” he said.

Radley was given a wholly suspended sentence of four years’ imprisonment this week in terms of a plea agreement with the state.

He pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting two pupils in the hostel on separate occasions in 1993, saying he had been “mixed up” and in an emotional turmoil at the time.
