The winners of the two Brett Goldin bursaries for 2012 are Timothy Redpath (28) of KwaZulu-Natal and Nkosinathi Gaar (26) of Johannesburg. Denise Goldin, the mother of the late actor, awarded the bursaries on Friday. The Goldin bursaries are awarded every second year to postgraduate students and gives them the opportunity to study the works of Shakespeare and theatre with the Royal Shakespeare Company in the Bard’s birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon. The bursaries were created after Goldin and his friend, Richard Bloom, were murdered in 2006, just days before Goldin would have gone to London to take on the role of Guildenstern in the Baxter production of Hamlet.
