Sharing our sorrow

2008-05-06 00:00

The Playhouse Company presents its latest New Stages production, Twisted Bones, in The Playhouse Loft from Thursday until Sunday. Durban choreographer Eric Shabalala has created this piece for the Siwela Sonke Dance Theatre.

“Twisted Bones is a work about people being prepared to help each other in their situations in life. In doing so, they realise that they have something in common with each other. We live by sharing our sorrow and pain with people close to us. Sometimes we cry in silence because we are scared of sharing our sadness. By speaking to one another we find relief,” explains Shabalala.

Interspersed with the dancing are multi-media images of traffic — cars, trains and people — as a symbol of the sadness, frustration, pain and sorrow.

There are two special performances available for schools at 11 am on Thursday and Friday. To book, phone Mala Govender at 031 369 9456. Tickets for schools are R15. Public performances are on Friday at 7 pm, on Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 3 pm. Tickets are R30 for these public performances. They can be booked through Computicket at 083 915 8000 or The Playhouse box office at 031 369 9540/9596 during office hours.
