Sharks: Senior Boks stay on board for new season

2010-10-15 00:00

THE Sharks have confirmed the Weekend Witness story that Springbok JP Pietersen and the other senior Springboks have extended their contracts and will be staying in Durban.

While numerous offers have been made to Sharks players coming out of contract at the end of this season, the top players will all be back for next year’s inaugural 15 team Super Rugby tournament.

Keegan Daniel, Ryan Kankowski, Tendai Mtawarira, JP Pietersen and Jacques-Louis Potgieter have all committed to the Sharks for the next three years together with Meyer Bosman, Conrad Hoffman and Charl McLeod, while Patrick Lambie and Lwazi Mvovo have two-year contracts.

Some players have extended their contracts while others remain contracted as per their signing with the Sharks in previous years.

Young signings include Anton Bresler, Dale Chadwick, Kyle Cooper, Guy and Ross Cronje, Wiehahn Herbst, Jandre Marais and Julian Redlinghuys, together with two South African Sevens players who won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in India on Tuesday, current Sharks Academy students S’Bura Sithole and Lubabalo Mthembu.

Missing: centre Andries Strauss is returning to Free State; scrumhalf Rory Kockott and centre Riaan Swanepoel have yet to sign contracts.

The rest of the squad currently contracted to the Sharks are Willem Alberts, Jacques Botes, Craig Burden, Jean Deysel, Bismarck and Jannie du Plessis, Alistair Hargreaves, Adrian Jacobs, Louis Ludik, Lionel Mapoe, Gerhard Mostert, Odwa Ndungane, Ross Skeate, John Smit, Steven Sykes, Stefan Terblanche, Eugene van Staden and Luzuko Vulindlu.
