Sharks: Team to face Force named

2010-05-13 00:00

SHARKS head coach John Plumtree had one of his easiest jobs of the Super 14 season yesterday when he named his team to meet the Western Force at King’s Park tomorrow night.

Burly loose forward Willem Alberts was the only injury concern (knee) after the superb 20-14 win over the Stormers last Saturday and Plumtree had no problem finding the most capable of replacements.

Jacques Botes, one of the form players of the Super 14 and Alberts’ replacement against the Stormers, returns with another lively flank, Keegan Daniel, providing back-up off the bench.

Botes lacks Alberts’ physical presence but he adds mobility to the Sharks pack and complements the abrasive Jean Deysel and game-breaker Ryan Kankowski perfectly at loose forward.

Plumtree has also retained the successful halfback pairing of Ruan Pienaar and Rory Kockott, but he has made a change on the bench and returned to the traditional 4-3 split with scrumhalf Charl McLeod added to the replacements in place of flank Botes.

“The challenge is making sure we get up for the game as we did against the Stormers,” Plumtree said.

The Force went down to the Cheetahs last weekend but they are dangerous opponents and have beaten both the Stormers and Crusaders this season.

The match kicks off at 7.10 pm and South African reserve panel referee Pro Legoete will handle the game.
