Sharks team-building at Midlands Mall

2008-01-05 00:00

Dick Muir and his Super 14 rugby squad, packed into five kombis, popped into the Midlands Mall on their way to Balgowan, where they will outspan at Michaelhouse for the weekend. Muir was in chipper mood in spite of the mist and rain.

“This weather may not be good for the beach, but it’s just right for team-building,” he said without expanding.

The Sharks returned to training on Thursday after their 10-day Christmas break and brought their World Cup Springboks with them.

“Everyone is looking keen and most are healthy,” said Muir.

He said that five players are still being nursed back to full fitness after ending last season with injuries. They are props BJ Botha, Deon Carstens, and Pat Cilliers, lock Steven Sykes and scrumhalf Scott Mathie. Muir said he hopes most of these players will be ready for the start of the Super 14 in the middle of next month.

The Sharks will play pre-season friendlies against the Cheetahs and the Lions early next month, before opening their Super 14 campaign against Australia’s Western Force in Durban on Friday, February 15.
