Shocking Sony e-mail hack reveals Die Antwoord’s American dream

2015-04-22 00:00

CAPE TOWN — The Sony e-mail hack has revealed even more insider Hollywood secrets and this time it has a distinct South African flavour.

Wikileaks published an e-mail sent from Die Antwoord to ex-Sony chief Amy Pascal on February 18, 2014.

In the e-mail, rapper Ninja thanks the Sony team for meeting with them during a trip to Los Angeles.

Ninja wrote: “Was so cool 2 meet you guys x. Our little LA trip was such fresh n furious educational experience ;) We back in africa now finishing up our new album! (sic)”

The e-mail, which Channel24 has read, focuses on two main points. Firstly the marketing for Neill Blomkamp’s film Chappie, in which Die Antwoord star, and secondly a new feature film the duo are working on.

According to the e-mail the feature film, named Zef, will be a $2 million (R24 million) movie filmed on location in South Africa with an amazing list of A-listers promised to make cameo appearances.

Ninja writes: “NINJA and YO-LANDI are brother and sister in the ZEF movie. i asked CHARLISE THERON to be NINJAS jealous girlfriend. i asked JACK BLACK and DANNY DEVITO to be 2 corrupt South African cops. i asked CHANNING TATUM to be a ruf thug who f***s NINJA up in an epic street fight. GUY PEARCE is also f***in keen to cameo on this joint. JOHNNY DEPP also digs our sh** (haven’t asked him yet tho … gonna ask him soon!).(sic)”

The A-listers are said to be super excited about the project which is set to “slide flawlessly out of the hype of the CHAPPIE movie”.

But that’s not where it ends. Ninja goes on to sell the idea of a Zef TV show to the Sony executives.

According to the e-mail, the Zef film will end with Ninja and Yo-Landi starting a rap-rave band called Die Antwoord. This will flow right into the Zef TV show which will see the band’s fame expanding and Ninja and Yo-Landi moving to America.

“Me and YO-LANDI have worked out a crazy cool style of feeding U.S. writers our actual real-life stories,” Ninja writes.

His plan is to make “stupid amounts of money for himself and his partners”.

The e-mail concludes with; “Love u guys. Spk soon. xx N.”

The Sony Pictures Entertainment hack was a release of confidential data belonging to Sony Pictures Entertainment on November 24, 2014. The data included personal information about Sony Pictures employees and their families, e-mails between employees and information about executive salaries at the company.
