Shoot-out: police wound wanted man

2010-02-22 00:00

A MAN wanted for murder was injured in a shoot-out with police in Durban yesterday and then arrested.

The man opened fire on police at a Durban taxi rank.

Police spokeswoman Director Phindile Radebe said the police received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the suspect, but when they got there on Saturday, the suspect evaded them.

Police went back to the area yesterday and when the suspect saw them, he allegedly drew a gun and shot at the police.

They retaliated, hitting him in the upper body and right hand.

The 23-year-old is wanted for five crimes, including murder, which he allegedly committed in the Greenwood Park area since January.

“The murder was committed last month where the victim was shot dead. This month two cases of attempted murder and house robberies were opened against him. On attempted murder cases, he is alleged to have shot the victims in separate incidents. One of the victims, who are both males, is still in hospital.”

After the shoot-out, the suspect was taken to hospital and is under police guard.
