Show: concert ends it in style

2008-06-02 00:00

A jam-packed arena at the Ukhozi FM concert was the perfect end to the 10-day Royal Agricultural Show yesterday.

“We have the world and his dog and they’re all having a whale of a time,” said general manager Terry Strachan, adding that MECs Zweli Mkhize and Bheki Cele made an appearance at the show. Attendance at the weekend more than doubled the total numbers, with 75 000 reported up to Friday and a total of 185 000 visitors, about the same as last year.

“We have had a number of mishaps, headaches, cuts and abrasions, but I can honestly say that we received no serious reports of a nasty nature throughout the show,” said Strachan. “The police really did a splendid job.”

Strachan said the worst thing that happened was a woman being knocked over by an escaped bull. “She suffered a bruised arm and was a little surprised.”

He said they are pleased about the attendance and are hoping to make a “modest surplus”.
