Show trumpets winds of change blowing through local band scene

2014-11-18 00:00

THE KZN Youth Wind Band will see out the year with a formal gala concert on November 22.

Hosted by the Durban Music School, this free concert will showcase the progress and exceptional musical standard of one of Africa’s most prestigious youth ensembles.

Featuring an eclectic mix of Western Classical, Film and African music, all played by passionate young musicians, this concert promises great music to cater for all tastes.

The band, which has performed all over KZN and internationally, will also pay tribute to the late conductor Werner Dannewitz, who passed away in November 2012. Dannewitz was considered a tour de force in Durban music, shaping many of South Africa’s musicians.

Conducted by Russell Scott, the KZN Youth Wind Band Gala Concert will officially open the Werner Dannewitz Concert Hall at the Durban Music School and, in a fitting tribute to the late great teacher and conductor, will see old members of the band playing alongside the current musicians.

The performance starts at 7 pm at the Durban Music School, 21 Diakonia Avenue, Durban Central.
