Signed flags on show

2010-07-17 00:00

FOR one weekend only, the 2010 Africa Salutes You Mandela Football Flags Exhibition will be hosted at Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World in Durban.

The artworks — which can be viewed today and tomorrow from 10 am to 10 pm — were commissioned by Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandlesizwe Dalibhunga (Mandla) Mandela, the grandchild of former President Nelson Mandela.

The limited edition prints, which show the flags of the 32 World Cup countries, were created by South African artist Athol Moult, with colouring and detail completed by the children of the Mvezo community in the Eastern Cape, where Madiba was born 92 years ago.

All the prints carry Mandela’s signature and pieces are on sale at R8 550 each or R273 600 for the full 32-piece collection.

All the prints to be sold are enclosed in a beautiful gift presentation box and include a certificate of authenticity.

Proceeds will go to the Mvezo community, which intends using the money to build a pre-school, upgrade the area’s secondary and primary schools and modernise a clinic.

This weekend also marks the final chance for KwaZulu-Natalians to see the 2010 Fine Art Collection at Suncoast.
