Silence greets Chase Valley power cuts

2010-02-08 00:00

THE Witness was unable to reach anybody yesterday to answer complaints about power cuts reported by residents in the Chase Valley area.

The paper spent over an hour calling the head of electricity, Maxwell Mthembu. His phone went unanswered before it was switched off.

The toll-free number was apparently busy on the numerous occasions The Witness called.

Staff at the Msunduzi Fire Department said they have received calls from frustrated residents complaining about a blackout in the area.

However, the fire department said it will no longer take electricity-related calls, and advised residents to call the electricity landlines, which should serve as after-hours lines.

In addition to the toll-free number, The Witness called 033 392 5098, 033 392 5096 and 033 392 5029 to no avail.
