THEATRE REVIEW

Bob & Rob and the Creepy Camping Adventure

Catalina Theatre, Wilson’s Wharf, Durban

TAMELDA the talking tree who struts onto the stage to Beyonc é ’s Single Ladies before asking the audience to praise her backing singers — two painted palm trees — was the scene stealing star of Bob & Rob and the Creepy Camping Trip at the Catalina Theatre.

Written and performed by Grant Jacobs and Rory Booth, this is the third Bob & Rob children’s show and if the reaction of the little ones in the audience is anything to go by, they have another hit on their hands.

This time Bob and Rob are challenged by their mother to have fun without watching TV, playing video games or using MXit. Their solution is to go camping in the backyard where they meet Tamelda and Lizzie the theatre ladybug who leads the audience in a sing-a-long of the Black Eyed Peas’ hit, I’ve Got A Feeling.

Both creatures warn the boys about Tokkie the Tokoloshe who hypnotises children into littering — and with the help of their new friends and everyone in the audience the pair set out to try to stop Tokkie from ruining the world.

This is perfect children’s fare — it’s just 45-minutes long and there’s loads of audience participation. Make sure you take your little one to see it before the run ends — and don’t forget to take along a torch.

• Bob & Rob and The Creepy Camping Trip is at the Catalina Theatre until December 23. To book phone Thandeka at 031 305 6889. You can book for the show only or also include a boat ride around the harbour. Shows are at 11 am seven days a week.
