Sister identifies body of woman found at stadium

THE woman found bound with wire near the Harry Gwala stadium last week has been identified as Senzekile Shange (20) of Dambuza. Her family claimed her body late last week.

Her sister, Nomkhosi Shange (29), who identified the body, told The Witness that her sister left home last Sunday to visit her boyfriend in Sobantu.

Shange said she became worried when Senzekile did not return the following day, as she usually did.

Shange tried to contact her sister on her cellphone. “I became more worried when I tried to call her and her phone was unreachable.”

On Monday morning, two people — a schoolchild and a man out for a run — saw the body and both alerted police.

Shange’s concerns increased on Tuesday when she still had not heard from Senzekile.

“I decided to call her boyfriend, but I was also diverted to voicemail. I became extremely worried on Tuesday, as it was unlike her to disappear like that. I knew my sister — each time she visited her boyfriend she would come back home the next day.”

Shange’s next step on Wednesday was to inquire around if anyone had seen her sister. “I took her photograph with me with the intention of asking people if they saw her.

“However, people advised me to go to the police because they had seen an article about a woman’s body that had been found,” she said.

On Friday, she went to the police and identified the body as her sister’s.

On Friday, Shange said she still could not get hold of Senzekile’s boyfriend.

The two women lived alone in Dambuza. Shange said her parents died in 2002. Senzekile will be buried by her family.
