PACKETS of cocaine and heroin racking up a street value of R1 million were found on a woman (53) at King Shaka International Airport on Monday.

She was searched by police upon her arrival from Brazil on Monday afternoon.

The South African woman was found with two large parcels of cocaine and heroin in her luggage.

“She was arrested after a crime intelligence driven operation was conducted collectively with SAPS Border Police, Customs and Excise and Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Durban, at King Shaka International Airport,” said police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker.

The alleged drug trafficker appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of drug possession.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded police at King Shaka for their vigilance.

In October this year, drugs worth R6,5 million were discovered among saris from India at King Shaka International.

In February this year, 1,6 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of over R540 000 were found strapped to the body of Jo-Anne Efne Farrell, who had arrived on a flight from Dubai.

That same month, Eugene Brits (43) was arrested at King Shaka International Airport, allegedly with 1,5 kilograms of cocaine taped to his body.
