So close to clean audit

2012-12-10 00:00

THE uThungulu District and its two entities, the uThungulu Financing Partnership and the uThungulu House Development Trust, have all received unqualified audit reports for the 2011/2012 financial year.

Presenting the audit findings to the council on Thursday, the operational leader of the auditor-general KZN, Indhren Perumal, praised the council for “its unbroken record”, adding that he was confident the municipality would achieve a clean audit in the 2012/2013 year.

District mayor Thembeka Mchunu said it was “heartening” that the district only had one issue that had clouded its chances of a clean audit, compared to 30 issues raised last year.

“We were one percent away from achieving a clean audit, which should be a matter of pride,” said Mchunu.

Speaker Musa Mzimela expressed appreciation to the managers who “had steered the ship in the past financial year”, prior to the appointment of municipal manager Mandla Nkosi.

The district will now develop a plan to achieve the “clean audit status”. Nkosi said the plan would be presented to the council and will be tracked by the leadership of the municipality to ensure that the goal for next year was achieved.
