Sobantu: 7?000 converge for Methodist service

2012-04-06 00:00

THE Methodist Church of South Africa in the uMgungundlovu area is ready to host thousands of their faithfuls for Easter Weekend in Sobantu.

Four cows have been slaughtered and two tents have been erected at Sobantu High School. The church said they are expecting more than 7 000 members to converge for worship.

Percy Majola, a member of the executive committee of the church told The Witness they have been preparing since last year and are confident that their celebrations will be successful.

Majola said: “People are coming from all the corners of the district. We’re going to have security guards, health professionals and food for all so that they can enjoy their Easter here.”

Desks have been put aside in classrooms at Sobantu High School to accommodate congregants.

Mobile fridges and big pots are ready for use in the school while the toilets have been cleaned.

There was excitement and a warm welcome for members as they arrived at the school yesterday.

Host Bongani Nxumalo promised that this gathering will be the safest because they have already prayed for it. “We have been praying for this Easter weekend asking for protection on the roads for all the users and we know that the Lord will protect us,” said Nxumalo.
