Soccer: PSL teams to battle during break

2011-11-12 00:00

THE O.R. Tambo Soccer Challenge at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace tomorrow will help players from Platinum Stars, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic to maintain their fitness levels during the international break.

The tournament is being held to honour the late Oliver Tambo, a prominent South African liberation struggle hero who passed away in 1993.

Orlando Pirates will play Bloemfontein Celtic at 10 am in the first semi-final.

Hosts Platinum Stars will then play against Mamelodi Sundowns at 12 pm in the other semi-final. The two winners will square up against each other in the final, which will be played at 4 pm.

While all the clubs taking part will be missing a good number of their international players who will be representing their countries during the weekend, they will be taking the matches seriously.

“As the hosts, we will be aiming to win this first edition of the tournament,” said Platinum Stars’ general manager Jason Raine. — Kickoff.
