South African women don’t really like their bodies … and critical men are to blame

2010-03-27 00:00

ACCORDING to the results of a body survey published in this week’s heat magazine, South African women do not like their bodies and it is largely men’s fault.

The online poll, conducted among 507 women and more than 100 men, showed that 56% of the participating women would consider plastic surgery.

Some of the men polled gave answers like: “I’ll never go out with a girl with a big bottom.”

Of the women, 28% would never wear a bikini.

“Considering that we’re a nation that likes to be outdoors, that is very surprising,” says heat editor Melinda Shaw.

“It appears as though South African girls have still not come completely to terms with our tummies and bottoms. Is this the fault of the men?” asks Shaw.

A total of six percent of respondents have already undergone plastic surgery.

Fifteen percent would have a tummy tuck if they could afford it, while 17% of respondents have asked the question, “So how far along are you?” while they were not pregnant.

“The good news is that 37% of the men who participated don’t notice cellulite and think that women should be less worried about it,” says Shaw.
