A NUMBER of fatal road accidents in KZN this weekend caused Transport MEC Willies Mchunu “deep concern”.

Mchunu said he was shocked to learn of a head-on collision in which six people died in Ladysmith on Sunday. The accident is alleged to have occurred when a VW Touran collided with a Toyota Corolla on the N11 before the Elandslaagte turn off.

According to a statement all six victims were occupants of the Toyota Corolla while four occupants from the VW Touran were injured and taken to hospital.

Mchunu said they will investigate the cause of the accident.

KZN EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie said three people died and two were seriously injured at the scene of an accident involving a single vehicle near Osizweni.

In Ladysmith in early hours of yesterday morning, one person was killed in an accident, while the other three occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries.

ER24 spokesperson Chris Botha said one man was seriously injured after a motorbike and bakkie collided at the intersection of Balhambra and Deccan Roads in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday evening.

Paramedics also had to treat two people injured in an accident on R33, between between Dundee and Greytown, when two cars collided.
