Speed: Biker clocks 177 km/h, taxi 145 km/h

A motorcyclist from Ballito was arrested on Saturday at Ashburton after he was clocked at 177 km/h on the N3 southbound.

Transport Department spokeswomn Zinhle Mngomezulu said the 29-year-old man was driving from Pietermaritzburg to Ballito.

The driver of a fully-laden taxi was arrested at Estcourt after being caught driving at 145 km/h. Taxis are supposed to travel at 100 km/h.

The driver of a Tip Transport truck was arrested when the vehicle was found to be 10 tons overloaded. “His vehicle was only supposed to carry 56 000 kg, but it weighed 66 000 kg.”
