Spinners come together

2010-09-10 00:00

SPINNERS from the Midlands Arts and Crafts Society (Macs) will be taking part in World Wide Spin in Public Day from 8 am to 2 pm on September 18, joining hundreds of other spinners around the world.

If the weather is fine, they will spin outside along Haldane Road and/or Ritchie Road. If it rains they will be in the main studio and on the verandah of Macs House, 23 Haldane Road, Pietermaritzburg.

Spokesperson Wendy Bloy said: “As many of the skills we teach are traditional, such as spinning, felting, knitting etc, it is very appropriate for Heritage Month in South Africa.

“We would love people to come along and learn more about spinning or join us with their spinning wheels or knitting needles. We will also have a display, in Macs Art House, of hand-dyed and hand-spun yarns and garments and bags made from the yarns to show people what they can do.”

Those who are interested in taking part should take their spinning wheels and/or drop spindles and fleece. Non-spinners are welcome to knit or crochet.
