Spiritual leader: Hindu pundit to visit city

2010-03-22 00:00

HINDU spiritual leader, philosopher and philanthropist Pundit Munelal Maharaj of Trinidad in the West Indies will be at the Truro Hall in Pietermaritzburg on April 8.

Anil Maharaj of the South African Indian Archives said they are honoured to have Maharaj in the city because he has inspired countless devotees around the world through his teachings.

Pundit Maharaj has continually chosen not to limit himself to any one group, but has rather allowed himself the freedom to support any group, Hindu or otherwise, who may request his assistance in carrying out God’s work, said Maharaj.

“Anyone who listens to his discourses and music will appreciate it.”

At the age of 13, Trinidad-born Maharaj became the youngest person at the time to deliver discourse on the Ramayana (the sacred book of Hinduism) and perform poojas.

Anil Maharaj said that through his many different projects, which include satsangs (services), workshops and youth camps, the pundit has dedicated himself to taking Hinduism to a new dimension.

“His lifelong goal is to promote Hinduism as a dynamic, blissful, incomparable pathway to better living, especially for the youth” Maharaj added.

The satsang is scheduled for April 8 at 6.30 pm for 7 pm at Truro Hall. Entrance is free.
