Springbok weds: Team-mates on hand as Bryan Habana ties the knot amid tight security

2009-09-21 00:00

CENTURION — Amid stringent security measures — including a cellphone ban — Bryan Habana and Janine Viljoen said their wedding vows at an estate in Centurion yesterday.

Viljoen arrived at the Sorex estate’s chapel in a horse-drawn carriage.

Staff from the ADT security company cordoned off part of the street outside with yellow cones and ADT vehicles to keep uninvited people away.

Paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius, Springboks Victor Matfield and Percy Montgomery and Bok coach Peter de Villiers were among the guests.

Guests had to park their cars on a pavement many metres from the estate’s gate since no one was allowed to drive in.

The gate was manned by security personnel, who checked names against the guest list, and then informed them that they would not be allowed to enter with cellphones or cameras.

There was a friendly atmosphere outside the gate, where old friends greeted and embraced one another, while they waited to enter.
