St Charles in fine comeback

2014-03-26 00:00

ST Charles College produced the goods on the hockey field this past weekend against Hilton, dominating in all divisions with only the U16A side sliding to defeat.

The school’s first team, that are the core of last year’s U16A side, are a well-oiled unit and although they fell a goal behind their Midlands counterparts, found their rhythm to strike back and storm away to a 4-1 win.

Hilton dominated territory and possession in the early stages, their pressure rewarded when Jarryd Eddie scored with a field goal.

Falling behind to an early goal was just the tonic St Charles needed to perform in front of their home support.

Stepping up a gear, the Saints found their groove, retaining possession and beginning to threaten. Nicholas Church levelled matters with a great field goal and the hosts pulled ahead when Marc Knobel followed up on a short corner to slam home.

As the match went on, St Charles upped the pressure and were rewarded when Luke Barnard, combining well with his midfielders and fellow strikers, added two of his own goals to put the result beyond doubt.

Controlling possession and the pace of the game, St Charles saw out the rest of the game to cap a fine win.
