St Charles out to prove their worth

2008-10-17 00:00

Another full round of fixtures is scheduled this weekend, this time all played on a limited overs basis.

There are four top games today with two in the capital and the other two in Durban. Michaelhouse visit St Charles and here the home team will be out to show that they did deserve to have more players in the Inland team than Michaelhouse (five to two).

On a benign pitch at Michaelhouse, the two teams drew during the first term, with St Charles scoring 247 for three declared and Michaelhouse replying with 185 for two at the close.

Today will be a good contest, with St Charles’s Matthew Boote, with a century last week, in good form, while Patrick Lambie and David Zwemke, the two Michaelhouse Inland players, will want to justify their places in the team.

Maritzburg College will be hosting Hilton and looking to reverse the first term’s result.

In Durban, the top game is at DHS, who host neighbours from across the Berea, Glenwood. Very often the derby game on Theobalds field at DHS produces an unusual result. But DHS are overwhelming favourites to win.

The other game is in Durban North where Northwood have a tough game in facing Kearsney.

Goldstones at Maritzburg College, sees the clash between visitors Hilton and College. Last weekend both these two schools played the requested declaration game and they played to a draw against Northwood and Westville respectively.

Hilton hold the advantage as they beat College in a relatively low-scoring game at the end of the first term. College had a disastrous first term as they won only one of the seven matches played, while Hilton won eight of the 13 matches that they played.

Runs have flowed from the bat of Craig Saunders, Hilton’s only representative in the Inland squad, this term. College have three players in the side and one of them, Dean Pengelley, has achieved with both bat and ball this season.

Westville has an easy fixture against Kloof. Crawford travel to play Amanzimtoti,

Carter will be hosting Wartburg; this game should be evenly contested.

Selected fixtures (home side first): St Charles vs Michaelhouse; DHS vs Glenwood; Maritzburg College vs Hilton; Northwood vs Kearsney; Westville vs Kloof; Amanzimtoti vs Crawford; Carter vs Wartburg; Howick vs Weston; Hillcrest vs Thomas More; Clifton vs George Campbell; Voortrekker vs Pinetown; Brettonwood vs Durban Clubs; Alexandra vs Treverton; St Henry’s vs Westville II.
