St John’s edge St Mary’s

2014-04-08 00:00

ST MARY’S DSG in Kloof hosted an U16 hockey tournament this past weekend, with teams from Durban and Pietermaritzburg participating.

The hosts also had their U14A team in action and it was fitting that the St Mary’s U16 team progressed to the final where they met St John’s from Pietermaritzburg.

It was a thrilling finale to the festival with both sides determined not to give an inch. It came down to an eight-second challenge to determine the champions with the Pietermaritzburg girls edging across the line.

The eight-second challenge has replaced the penalty flick and involves each side selecting three players who have eight seconds to take the ball from the 25-metre line, into the circle and attempt to beat the keeper.
