Standard and MCC confirm their top spots in MCA Premier Division

2015-02-12 00:00

STANDARD and MCC confirmed their spots on top of the MCA Premier Division one and two after solid wins in their 50-over matches at the weekend.

Masibemunye finally made a showing, pitching up for their clash with Standard at Dairy, where they were hopelessly outclassed in a one-sided affair. Adding to their misery was a further point being deducted from them for failing to submit a result sheet on time. This leaves them firmly entrenched at the bottom of division one with a single point from seven scheduled matches.

Zingari and Varsity’s meeting at Collegians was abandoned without a ball being bowled and in division two, MCC saw off Young Natalians at Khan Road by seven wickets and Cosmos eased past Lancashire at Woodlands.

There were also paltry scores on some tricky strips, with Standard’s Riley Coutts producing unbelievable bowling figures of 7-9 in nine overs against Masibemunye, while elsewhere there were a few batsmen who managed to ease past the 50 mark without pushing through to a sizeable innings. The weekend’s best effort was Vaughan Manue’s 73 for Lancashire against Cosmos.
