STANDARD Cricket Club extended their lead at the top of the Midlands Premier Cricket League when they beat Varsity, their closest rivals, last weekend.

The result saw Northern Combined — who also won their game — gain some ground on Varsity.

In the game between Varsity and Standard, the students could only manage 150 all out from 47.1 overs, which was not enough against their league table topping visitors.

Gareth Rall was Standard’s best batsman as they reached the target of 151 with four wickets lost in just 34.2 overs to win by six wickets.

Masibemunye also climbed a place when they beat Young Natalians by seven wickets. Kyle Heyns was in fine form as he picked up four wickets for 13 runs as they bowled Young Natalians out for 73. It took just 11.2 overs for Masibemunye to reach the target and win the game.

Northern Combined produced a clinical performance with the ball to dismiss Lancashire for 92 after 37.5 overs.

Having batted first, Northern Combined made 174 all out in 36.3 overs with Sheldon Munharoo being the pick of the batsmen with 58 runs. Vaughan Manuel picked up four wickets for 48 runs in that innings.

Northern Combined ended up winning the game by 82 runs.

Zingari were handed the win by default in their game against KZNINCU Schools Combined team.
