HIGH-RIDING Standard Cricket club’s first XI are in commanding form in this season’s competitions and their latest result was no different, beating Lancashire by seven wickets.

Lancs were dismissed for 99 with seamer Scott Tarr and left-arm orthodox spinner Kyle Nipper doing the damage before Chad Barron weighed in with a powerful innings that saw log-leaders Standard race to victory.

Standard lead the KZN Inland Premier 50 log by four points from second-placed Zingari, and lead the KFC Premier T20 log by 11 points from Varsity, who have a game in hand.

Midlands have a one-point lead over Standard in the KZN Inter-City League, after each team has played just one game.

The other match was a close affair that was nevertheless dominated by KZN Inland top-order batsman Nic Hendrie, who also proved he is no slouch with the ball.

Led by the run-scoring success of Rob Hampson and Jason Vaughn-Davies, a competitive target of 191 was set by Midlands, despite Hendrie’s four for 20.

However, Zingari made light of the challenge, hauling in the total in just 35 overs, with Hendrie (80) and young Tyron Walsh (59) leading the way in the face of veteran seamer Alan Briscoe’s very useful three for 12.

KZN Inland manager of amateur cricket, EB Hossen, said fixtures would commence on January 13 after the players have had a well-deserved holiday season break.
