Stars come from behind to sink Brazilians

2013-04-15 00:00

PLATINUM Stars secured a semi-final berth thanks to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in a Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash at Loftus Stadium yesterday.

Teko Modise gave the Brazilians the lead before Thuso Phala and Robert Nga’mbi scored for Dikwena to send them through to the next round.

United FC also booked a semi-final spot yesterday when they beat African Wanderers 3-2.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Zvasiya’s goal handed Kaizer Chiefs a 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in Saturday’s quarter-final clash at the Free State Stadium.

Celtic pushed forward in search of the equaliser, but they struggled to break down the stubborn defence by the Chiefs and were subsequently limited to long range efforts.

Chiefs joined SuperSport United in the last four of the competition after Matsatsantsa beat Maritzburg United 2-1 earlier on Saturday.
