Steenkamp was shot four times through door

MODEL Reeva Steenkamp (30) was behind a bathroom door in Oscar Pistorius’s house when he allegedly shot her dead.

Pistorius was arrested and will be charged with murder after she was hit by four bullets, in the head, chest, pelvis and hand.

Police and security guards at the luxury Silver Woods estate near Pretoria were called to the house about two hours before the shooting after neighbours complained about the noise from an apparent fight between him and Steenkamp.

At about 3.30 am guards were called back to the house after neighbours heard four shots.

A neighbour, who declined to give his name, said the guards found Pistorius next to Steenkamp’s body in a bathroom.

He said she had been shot through the door.

Pistorius was arrested and police seized a 9 mm pistol.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Denise Beukes said outside the estate that Pistorius was questioned at the scene and was fully co-operative.

She confirmed that witnesses and neighbours had heard a fight before the shooting.

“I confirm there had been previous incidents of a domestic nature at his place, but this will form part of the investigation,” she said.

Beukes said that the police don’t know who started the story that Pistorius mistook Steenkamp for an intruder, “because it didn’t come from the police”.

Sapa reported that hours before the shooting, Steenkamp tweeted: “What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow???”

At about 11 am, a white VW Polo with Pistorius in the backseat left the estate, followed by several police vans.

Pistorius was taken to the Boschkop police station where he was officially charged with murder.

At about lunchtime, he walked out of the police station dressed in a silver-grey tracksuit top and sweatpants, his hood pulled low over his face.

He was driven to the Mamelodi Hospital to be examined by a district surgeon.

Beukes said “standard tests that are done when someone is arrested for this sort of crime” were being done. These included scrapings under his fingernails and blood alcohol tests.

An expert in the field of forensic pathology said that Steenkamp’s blood would also be tested for alcohol.

A forensic pathologist would decide whether to test for other substances and remove the bullets for ballistic testing.
