Stock thieves target do-gooders

2014-08-12 00:00

THOSE fighting stock theft have turned into targets for the stock thieves.

That’s according to KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu.

Houses that belong to Andries Zungu and Philip Zulu were set alight in eGodeni, Vryheid this past weekend. The two are active members of Isikebhe, a community initiative to fight stock theft. Isikebhe is an affiliate of the KwaZulu-Natal Community Crime Prevention Association (KZNCCPA).

Mchunu said the community should work with the police to ensure that those waging a battle against criminals of all sorts are protected.

Chairperson of the KZNCCPA Tallman Zuma said, “It is unfortunate that by fighting stock-theft, crime and drug-traffickers, we have become the enemies of criminals.”
